As the learner-centered teaching is highly advocated in recent years,second language teaching puts much emphasis on language learners'learning process and the effect of their characteristics on their learningwith the development of the researches on language learning theories,educational psychology, psycholinguistics, applied linguistics, etc. In thestudy of the factors which can affect the learners'learning a secondlanguage, the individual differences are one of the key issues which helpteachers know students better and take proper teaching methods toprovide what they need. Gardner's theory of Multiple Intelligences justreflects the notion of respecting students'differences and adopting moreflexible and individualized teaching methods so that students can be moreconfident and better learning results will be achieved.This thesis analyzes the differences among second language learners,especially the differences of intelligence in terms of MultipleIntelligences theory and explores the applications of differentiatinginstruction guided by MI theory in teaching a second language.
