| Researches the sail training ship's shape and decoration style are carried systematically in this thesis, which is on the basis of national style of sail training ship design in today's world and combined with Chinese traditional culture and design elements. The aim is to achieve sail training ship design with the Chinese national style. And these researches can offer a theoretical basis for the design of the Chinese sail training ship.There is no sail training ships in China currently, so how to apply Chinese national style in the sail training ship design is the focus of this research project. Firstly, the thesis introduced the national design style in foreign sail training ship existing according to the collected information on researched materials about Chinese traditional ship design which includes appearance features, decorative patterns and the history, culture and technology relevantly. And the Chinese traditional style elements are classified. Secondly, after analyzing Chinese traditional decoration and design elements penetratingly, the characteristics of basic design elements were obtained and rules of Chinese national style were found out in traditional Chinese design. According to the ship design, characteristics of design elements were generalized. Thirdly, on the foundation of researches on the foreign sail training ship's style and analysis Chinese national style elements in traditional shape and decoration design, as well as consideration of the relationships among man-machine-environment and national standards in warship design, the total style of the sail training ship and the design direction of typical parts were determined. Finally, through the analysis and researches on the Chinese national style elements in the application of design, application methods in sail training ship design were summarized. And a plenty of design proposals to representative parts including sail training ship's figurehead, hull outfitting and important cabins were carried out.
