A Study On Image Translation Of Xin Qiji's Lyrics From The Perspective Of Palmers' Cultural Linguistics

Linguistic anthropologist Palmer inherited and developed the three traditions of anthropology, which are Boasian tradition, ethnosemantics tradition and ethnography of speaking tradition. He combined these three traditions with cognitive linguistics'results and scientific methods to form a brand-new synthesis of theories. He called this synthesis of theories cultural linguistics. Cultural linguistics analyzes language phenomena from the perspective of culture. Image theory is the fundamental theory of cultural linguistics.This thesis is aimed to analyze on image translation in Xin Qiji's lyrics from the perspective of Palmer's cultural linguistics. With the analysis of Xin Qiji's lyrics, this thesis is aimed to show how the original images are translated and how the cultural information is transported to the reader through the translation of the images. From the Perspective of Palmer's cultural linguistics, this thesis makes an analysis on Xin Qiji's typical images: heroic images, depressed and miserable images and pastoral images. Through the comparative studies of Xin Qiji's lyrics, this thesis is supposed to explore the way of translating the original images into the target language with the possible amount of preservation of cultural meaning. After the analysis, we find out that cultural linguistics is explainable in the practical procedure of image translation.
