The translation materials of this translation practice report are Chapter 11 and Chapter 12 of A Companion to the History of the Book. The two chapters are mainly about the printing history of Hebrew books and Islamic books, including the development of manuscripts, the decoration of books and so on.In the process of translation, the author has noticed that “de” is frequently used in the translation, and it is easy to be abused. This is due to the multiple functions of “de” and the differences between English and Chinese, and the translation is easily influenced by the translation of words in English dictionaries and textbooks. This phenomenon leads to the fact that the translation does not conform to the Chinese writing habits, the expression is vague, wordy and complicated, and the sentences are not smooth. Therefore, the author thinks about how to avoid the abuse of “de”.Taking the author's translation practice as example, and quoting the principles of distance iconicity and salience in cognitive linguistics, this paper discusses the translation methods of avoiding the abuse of “de” in English-Chinese translation by summarizing the phenomenon and reasons of the abuse of “de” in English-Chinese translation and drawing lessons from the rules of appearance and disappearance of “de” in Chinese,so as to improve the quality of translation, and provide experiences for the future work of English-Chinese translation. This report is divided into five chapters: the first chapter is the task overview, which mainly introduces the background and significance of the task;the second chapter is the task process, including pre-translation preparation, translation process and post translation proofreading;the third chapter summarizes the rules of appearance and disappearance of“de” in Chinese and the phenomenon and reasons of the abuse of “de” inEnglish-Chinese translation;the fourth chapter, the focus and core of this report,is the case analysis of translation methods, which gives specific translation methods to avoid the abuse of “de” in English-Chinese translation, including Deletion of “de”,Conversion of part of speech,Reorganization of sentence structure,Change of words;the fifth chapter is the conclusion, which summarizes the author's experience in the process of translation, and points out the shortcomings of this translation practice report.
