Research On The Relations Between Counterfactual Thinking,emotions,attitude,self-seteem And Internal-external Locus Of Control

Counterfactual thinking is mental representations of alternatives to the past to the individual. This article presented related research about the concept,type,theory of counterfactual thinking from home and abroad. In this article use of the questionnaire and Scenario story,the 500 college students were correlation analysis, T test ,χ2test and multiple comparisons which were used to study relationship of counterfactual thinking to the attitude,self-seteem and internal-external locus of control.The results show that:Subjects had a similar number of counterfactual thinking ,Either positive results or negative results.Positive result easily induces downward counterfactual thinking,negative result easily induces upward counterfactual thinking.Subjects Preference for Self-strategy counterfactual thinking rather than others-strategy counterfactual thinking.,especially in a negative story scenarios.The relationship of counterfactual thinking and emotional valence is significant.Downward counterfactual thinking more easily induces positive emotional, upward counterfactual thinking more easily induces negative emotional .In addition,the result of this study does not show the significant relationship between the strategy of counterfactual thinking and Subsequent emotional state.Either positive results or negative results,Low self-esteem subjects were tested produced more upword counterfactual thinking , high self-esteem subjects were tested produced more downword counterfactual thinking. When the result was positive, Low self-esteem subjects produced more Self-strategy counterfactual thinking, high self-esteem subjects produced more others-strategy counterfactual thinking.The relationship between the strategy of counterfactual thinking and internal-external locus of control is significant. When the result was positive, External control subjects produced more others-strategy counterfactual thinking than Self-strategy counterfactual thinking, Internal control subjects produced more Self-strategy counterfactual thinking than others-strategy counterfactual thinking. When the result was negative,most of the subjects produced more Self-strategy counterfactual thinking.
