The approach of mingling western and eastern painting skills owned the compliment of the emperor. And it reached its peak during the QianLong period. In terms of new kinds of painting's nature, Castiglione didn't truly appreciate the spirit of the Chinese traditional painting as he improved western painting on the base of utilitarian. Therefore his works were lack of spirit while too much skilled. Dislocation is the main shortcoming of this painting genre which was finally discarded by the artists.Although the improvement of this genre was merely half-done, its appearance still raised people's reflection on the blend of western and eastern painting as well as provided an access to know more about western paintings and reform Chinese paintings.
