Discussion On The He Jingming's Poetry And Prose Fu

He Jingming (1483-1521), who styled himself Zhongmo, alias Dafu, is from Xinyang, Henan Province. He Jingming is among the Previous Seven Talents——a school of literature during the years from 1488 to 1521. He Jingming was a palace graduate during the reign of Koji. He was once appointed associate superintendent in Shaanxi Province and there are still many anecdotes about him today. Being honest and straightforward, he was acclaimed as nationally outstanding personage. He Jingming, together with Li Mengyang, promoted the campaign of literature renaissance to rival with the secretariat style which dominates the then literature circle. However, he insisted on transforming the classical literature while learning from it and also stressed that poems should originate from the bottom of the heart to express true feelings, thus exerting a significant impact on literary creation.In the middle of the Ming Dynasty, conflicts heated up both in society and between scholar-bureaucrats and dishonest clique including eunuchs. It is worth noting that the He Jingming, as a man of integrity, criticized not only treacherous court officials and eunuchs who had brought calamity to the nation, but also the supreme ruler. He Jingming outdid the others in Previous Seven Talents in terms of his conception and criticism of reality. With a mind filled with humanitarianism, He Jingming featured concern for the common people and their sufferings in his descriptive poetic proses. As is evidenced in most of He Jingming's works, true feelings from the bottom of his heart are defined. These works includes works featured by criticism, seeing-off, presenting each other with gifts, memory of historical personages or event, a certain painting, to the author's own lofty aspirations. He Jingming also gave emphasis to artistry of the literary work while he adopted a down-to-earth manner and contributed criticism on current affairs. His prestigious poems rhymed with vivid images. He Jinming's critical descriptive poetic proses are quite to the point in nature; and his proses on lofty aspirations are graceful and lucid in style.He Jingming has a niche with his thoughts on literature and his works in the literary history of the Ming Dynasty. In light of the present studies, He Jingming's literary creation especially his poems and proses are worth further understanding and researching.
