Though as guiding special terms, the vocal music teaching terms are in the chaos. Different vocal music teachers hold different opinions of the vocal music teaching terms, which partly affect the overall development of our vocal music teaching. So it is necessary to classify the vocal music teaching terms.This essay creatively summarizes characteristics of the vocal music teaching terms into empirical practice, individual habit, rhetorical language, improvisation and development, and according to the basic elements of the vocal music, classifies the common vocal music teaching terms into 5 groups including breath, sound, articulation, resonance and acoustic area. About 30 common vocal music teaching terms are mentioned in the essay ,such as DanTian gas, diaphragm, pivot, opening throat, on-glide, sound position, high position and resonant cavity, masks, clear pronunciation ,transitional sound, cover (closed). Then it comes to the conclusion that the vocal music teaching terms should follow the several principles, i.e. combination of perception and reason, combination of language's richness and conciseness, and the dialectical use from the perspective of physical science, singing psychology, vocal music aesthetics, and dialectical analysis of linguistics. Finally the author hopes this study can be beneficial to vocal music enthusiasts and teachers.
