The founder of"Splashing Ink and Freehanded painting", Chinese painting master in Ming Dynasty, Xuwei opened up a new development in the world of Chinese monochromes and promoted Chinese painting art into a new era. He studied his painting skills from Shenzhou, Zhimian Zhou, Linliang, Chenchun. He made a great improvement in"Splashing Ink and Freehanded painting"through combining"Freehanded painting"skills of his predecessors.Even though Xuwei was very smart when young and read plenty of books, his experience was very rough, and he missed Imperial Examination for nine times. Failed with his political career, 34 years old man finally met Zongxian Hu, who was a high leader in the war against Wo, but not long after Hu was framed in a political issue and died in prison. Becoming crazing, Xuwei killed his wife and was in prison for seven years. He came out of the prison through the efforts of his friends, though his personality became more outstanding. With his crazy characteristic, he offended many of officials and therefore influenced his career in the following days. As for his tragic experience, he lived in misery; however, as an artist his experience enriched his art creation. Since his career failed, he focused on art and made great fulfillment in calligraphy, painting, and poetic drama. Especially, he became the best painter in his era in his later period and left precious cultural heritage. In this article, I didn't follow the predecessor's path to study the way of Xuwei's Splashing ink and Freehanded painting, but mainly started from how Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism directed Xu's life and art creation and how his misery influenced his art creation. In his early day, he was educated in Confucian way, which was rooted in his knowledge hierarchy and pushed him to pursue his career in politics; when he failed many times, he gained consolation and affiliation in mind from Taoism; when General Hu was framed, he comprehended the creed of Buddhism and liberated from the cruel reality. As his unique works characteristics was influenced by misery experience, on the one hand, he pursued and accolade the idea of"Leave the figure, keep the shade"in Freehanded creation, therefore his works became special artistic conception; on the other hand, with his idea of"Figure is unimportant, but pursuing Yun", his flower-bird works naturally equipped with"Xingshen and Qiyun", which is Chinese traditional painting qualities. The aesthetics tendency of Xuwei directed his art creation. His works style was unique and embodied with Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism. The work's style of Xuwei was fulfilled by Confucian thought of"Ren"and Tao's aesthetic persuasion of"Free Travel", and at the same time, researching on Zen Buddhism, his works was abounded with the meaning of Zen.Therefore, with the above idea, it is not difficult to understand the necessity of Xuwei's painting style and the uniqueness of his works.
