Badashanren, a famous painter in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty, was good at Flower and Bird Painting. He opened up changes of times and inner feeling completely in his works, and therefore, a new style of Chinese Comfortable Flower and Bird Painting was formed, which affect the development of Comfortable Flower and Bird Painting for posterity deeply. Badashanren’s special background and extraordinary life experiences created his ambivalence, and therefore his unique painting language was formed.The Existence and Non-existence Conceptions in Chinese Painting originated from the view of traditional Chinese philosophy, such as existence and nonexistence, and imagination and reality, and so on, which are unities of opposite. Badashanren’s special life experience made him really realize the thought of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. Three kinds of different thought collide and fused with each other in his body and mind. Imagination and Reality View of Chinese philosophy deeply affected Badashanren’s Painting, which makes his works unpredictable and mysterious. Badashanren convey the changes of psychological contradiction and the mental state at different times, by the expression of imagination and reality, using concise words, concise lines, exaggerated shapes and peculiar composition.The paper includes five chapters as follows: chapter one is about the formation of Badashanren’s painting style, expounding the reasons for the formation of his painting style by his spiritual world and artistic heritage; Chapter two is about the impact of Imagination and Reality View of Chinese philosophy to Badashanren, expounding his philosophy concept of Imagination and Reality, respectively, from the change of Yin Yang Tai Chi, and the similarities and differences of Imagination and Reality that Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism cognize. Chapter Three is about the beauty of Imagination and Reality of form language, expounding the beauty of Imagination and Reality of Badashanren’s paintings, respectively, from three aspects of the operating position, the use of white cloth and ink, on concrete paintings. The fourth chapter is about the dependence of Form and Spirit, expounding the nexus between images performance and Spiritual Expression through analysis of the concrete modeling of Badashanren’s paintings. This paper focuses on philosophy thought Badashanren’s Flower and Bird Paintings conveyed and the way to express thoughts and feelings of the artist, start with Imagination and Reality View of traditional Chinese philosophy and by Painting concept of Imagination and Reality, and expound the nexus between Imagination and Reality philosophy of traditional Chinese Painting and Badashanren’s paintings.
