Costume is human's particular fruits of labor. People's living habits, aesthetic taste, color preferences and religious ideas, are been accumulated in it. During the process of development of human civilization, Chinese costume culture has left a bright beautiful chapter. Cheongsam as one of the most wonderful sections, inherited to nowadays, is known as the "oriental myth." As a typical representative of Chinese costume, and wonderful part of world's costume culture, cheongsam has long been attracted worldwide attention. Particularly after the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, China's position has been improved significantly. Chinese culture has once again become the focus of attention, and set off a wave of "China fever". Cheongsam has several hundred years of history and has been through the Qing Dynasty, recent modern and modern three main phases. Modern cheongsam has experienced several important process of rising, population, golden age, decline and re-interpretation. This paper tries to analyze the evolution of cheongsam, so as to discuss how to extract costume culture and apply to modern costume design. Only by refining and deeply summering, it may take the essence of national elements, and provides some good references for exploring contemporary costume design.
