Construction And Evolution On The Theory Of Ideology

Ideology is one of the most numerous,vague and the most frequently used categories in the history of western thought. From Tracy to Karl Marx to Western Marxists, ideology is the theory they can't avoid all along. Western Marxists try to combine modern Western Philosophy with Marxist philosophy, forming the Frankurt. Structural Marxism. Post-Marxist and other Schools. Based on the development of science and technology, according to changes of western political,economic and cultural conditions, they proposed their own views and ideas, so to some extent they also enriched and developed Marxist theory of ideology.This essay sorts out and analyzes the Marxist theory of ideology and the Western Marxist theory of ideology such as Gramsci,Althusser,Habermas,Zizek, and divides them into five themes. The first part discusses the concept of Marxist ideology and the Western Marxists'development of the concept of ideology, then comparatively analyzes Marx,Engels,Althusser and Habermas'different views on the relationship of ideology and science in order to further clear the concept of ideology. The second part disserts the ideas and researches about the political function of ideology, and investigates the different researches on ideology and the construction of the subject. The last Part probes the opinions about the fate of ideology.After the detail analysis of the construction and evolution on the theory of ideology, we can see that Western Marxists had made a significant contribution, but they still have its shortcomings. Therefore, the conclusion part stands the critical viewpoint to the theory, and required us to use a dialectical view on the Western Marxists'enriching and developing.
