After 60 years'development, out-of- school education has shaped an education network covered the whole nation. "Children palace education" has been formed as an integrated educational system. The mass activity is one of the two activity patterns of the current children palace education. Although many activity experiences have been accumulated, the theoretical exploration of this activity pattern is still not enough. This thesis takes the organization and implementation of Dongcheng Children Palace as an individual case, adopting structure theory of Giddens. Starting from the developmental history of Dongcheng Children-Palace's mass activities, with interviews, observation and text analysis method, this thesis tries to present the developmental course of the mass activities carried out by the children palace, explores the developmental pattern of out-of -school education's mass activities in the new trend, and thinks that as nonprofit organization the children palace how to achieve the public and educational function and fully develop the activity and creativity of the mass activities' teachers. The results are as follows:Under the successive dominate of external experience (Soviet model), political thinking and economic thinking, gradually Beijing's Dongcheng Children Palace's heads for the way of being dominated by education thinking to organize mass activities. Although there still are some problems in the three structural dimensions-ideographical expression, dominant and legalization, the developmental pattern of mass activity has been basically established. The developmental course of mass activity of the Dongcheng Children Palace states distinct structural course, while structural development is the only way of the mass activity achieving its goal. The course of structural development manifests the hard work from the teachers of children palace's mass activity, who exerts activity on finding suitable structural pattern under the re- striction of political, economic and other factors, in order to promote the all-around development of the young and reflect the nonprofit requirements. In the aspect of expression structure, the teachers clearly classified the activities contents through their careful observation of life, the understanding of the expression way of life experience and the grasping of educational rules; also they established a relatively stable content range against different activity forms. In the aspect of dominant structure, through rational organization the teachers integrated the current available resources to service for specific types of activities within the authority, and realized activity's sustainable development and teachers'self-development while minimized the reliance on the financial activities as much as possible. In the aspect of legalization structure, the teachers abided by state, local and children palace's regulations, also established criterion for the specific type of activity in the process, to gain the recognition from and out of the children palace for the activities' sustainable development. In the development course of the Dongcheng Children Palace, the teachers of the mass activity experienced the three processes of experiencing, understand- ing and grasping structure restriction, and established a reasonable develo- pment pattern of mass activity. This pattern provides a thinking of the development, as well as many referential experiences for the development of other out-of-school institutions.
