Confucianism is the essence of the Chinese Central Plain's culture all the time, and then, filial piety is not only the foundational idea of benevolence, but also the most basic part of Confucianism. Confucian thought that if we implemented filial piety in a family, even in a nation, it would never happen the event of defying superiors and starting a rebellion in a family or a nation, naturally, the ruler can spread filial piety to common people who would spontaneously obey and do not rebel. In this way, the national prosperity and social stability can be maintained. Considering this fact, filial piety is the essential spirit as well as national spirit of Chinese Hans, which should be learned by each of people in the Central Plain. Whereas in Western societies, no matter how advanced the science is, supposing there is no religious faith, people's life would be empty, and would also lack significance. Faith is the core of life and the soul of world. It is not a material imposed compulsively by human beings, but is granted naturally by God. Therefore, the Westerners regard religious faith as their living center, the intrinsic character of life, the light to illuminate people's heart, and the signal to direct people's onward destination. So the Westerners hold the idea that human beings can not live without religious faith. In other words, the Western religious faith is the essence of Western culture and that is also known very well as Westerners' national spirit.Confucian filial piety is the most important constituent part in the Central Plain's traditional culture, but it does not exist in the Western culture from beginning to end. Similarly, religious faith exists exclusively in the Western culture. Although in the development of the Central Plain's history, it has ever appeared some sects, such as Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism, to a large extent, all these sects are different from the pure religious faith. There are some reasons which can account for such kind of absence. First of all, owing to the influence of the Central Plain's traditional Confucianism, in the Central Plain, it is difficult to form the pure religious faith. Secondly, there is no pure religious faith in the area of the Central Plain, in which people just have a kind of pseudo-religion. Thirdly, the Central Plain's tremendous official society makes its culture difficult to form pure religious system. Therefore, the Central Plain's culture has not true religious faith to support human being's spiritual consciousness. The existence and development of all these two cultural products have their own independence. Meanwhile, these two cultural products also have their development process, living background, and operating mechanism respectively.By demonstrating and analyzing the Central Plain's filial piety and Western religions, this paper unfolds the Central Plain's ideas of filial piety of Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism, the characters of Western religious faith, and reveals the absence of these two products in the other culture, and the reasons of their absence. Through this paper, we can get the basic difference between these two cultures, and then make a conclusion about coexistence and beneficial complement of these two cultural products.
