Environmental Ethics: The Ethic Dimensions In The Construction Of Ecological Civilization

Eco-system is the cornerstone of human being's civilization, which also offers the most solid foundation for the existence and development of human society. But when we look around the beautiful planet where we live, we only to find worsening environment, increasing population, and fewer resources, which bring more and more worry about the future of human life. Sky with black rolling clouds, land with heavy pollution, oceans with painful groaning, rivers with black water, birds with no singing, violent sandstorm, ubiquitous garbage, accelerating extinction of species…all of these show that the earth is facing the largest and the most serious ecological destruction and environmental pollution. The Earth is groaning for great pains, at the same time she is angry for human being's greed. "Smart "human beings are digging traps for burying themselves.Human beings pushed themselves to the brink of destruction, and only human beings can save themselves. Humans smarter than other creatures, that is because they have the ability of self- reflection. Environmental ethics came into being with the background of the deteriorating ecological environment, which holds that environmental degradation is the result of human selfishness----the"narrow love"ethics. During the period of industrial civilization, based on the conquest of anthropocentrism and human being's desire of conquer, not only people definite ecosystem within the scope of human love, but put nature opposite to human beings. From this point of view, they thought activities for development means request from nature. Environmental ethics expenses the scope of the object of human morality from human and society to life and nature. With new moral principles and standards, it tries to restrain damaging behaviors to people, society and nature, and maintain the harmony between people and the harmony between man and nature. If you want to solve the ecological imbalance thoroughly and rescue people from the traps, we must redefine the relationship between human beings and nature. Only by this way, can we wake up people's ecological and moral consciousness, and make people make sense of their ethical obligation to nature when we are requesting something from nature. The purpose of the rise of environmental ethics is to break the shackles of anthropocentrism, adjust the relationship between man and nature, and to provide a new picture and methods for"poetic dwelling in the earth"(Heidegger Khmer) by demonstrating ethical relationship between man and nature.Based on the deep thought of global ecological problems, China put forward the idea of building a socialist ecological civilization. Ecological civilization emphasizes the harmony among environmental, social, economic development, which requires not only the support from the implementation of technology and policies and the protection from laws and regulations, but also needs a guidance of inherent moral and cultural mechanism.This thesis starts with the description of several global ecological problems and picks out one of the causes----the philosophical thoughts on the problem to reveal the ethic way in solving the ecological problems. This paper also looked back the development process of Western environmental ethics and its development in China. This thesis summarizes the difficulty in the development of environmental ethics and points out the complement from traditional Chinese culture and Marxist view of nature, which promotes the development of environmental ethics. This paper analyzes the implicated inherent of environmental ethics in the concept of ecological civilization, and shows the ethic basis. Such research finds a moral support for environmental protection, which provides theoretical and practical support in our ecological civilization construction.
