A Study On "Guan" Sentence In Modern Chinese

The"guan"sentence is a common sentence patterns in spoken Chinese.Viewed from the perspective of the language form, these sentences are not contain negative meaning words, but semantically, every sentence expresses negative meaning, and the negative meaning are embodied by denying the"guan"word."guan"equals"bu guan", we named this special sentence as"guan"sentence. Because the"guan"sentences express negative meaning by using positive form, it has caused a lot of scholars' attention.This paper is based on absorbing and drawing lessons from the relevant research results, and, On the base of researching of lots of materials, from three aspects, syntax, semantics and pragmatics, to explain systematically and fully the features and functions of"guan"sentence-types. Apart from introduction and conclusion. there are several chapters in this thesis.First and mainly to the"guan"sentence is classification. This classification is both on the basis of semantic and syntax, but finally manifests in the syntax structure by a certain form. Approximately, we divide"guan"sentence into four categories. From complete sentence to omit type, these diachronic changes reflect its grammaticalization and subjective change process.We can say that the"guan"sentence in modern Chinese has gradually formatted, such as some"guan ta ne"sentences, they had fixed form and also had fixed meanings, basically to express a kind of modal mood, with casually, don't care, indifferent mood and so on. At the end of a sentence modal particles"ne"can strengthen that tone.Secondly analyzed emphatically is the pragmatic functions of"guan"sentence."guan"sentence has a strong pragmatic functions of irony."guan"get negative tone from rhetorical-question significance."guan"sentence has a strong emotional function.Emphatically finally we discuss the subjectivity problem of"guan"sentence. Subjectivity is a kind of common phenomenon in languages. It is very prominent in"guan"sentence. The specific feature is around"guan", there are many emotional words or some swear words directly.
