Period Study on Hongshan Culture from the Viewpoint of PotteryThe Hongshan culture is a famous prehistoric archaeology culture in the northeast of China.On the basis of combed all the currently published materials, this paper meticulously analysises and makes detailed argumentation to the Hongshan culture's stages division and dating judgement.Eventually divided the development of the Hongshan culture into three stages which equivalent to Yangshao early,middle and late period.This paper is divided into four parts.Partâ… ,The reviews and comb to the Hongshan culture's periodization.About the periodization of the Hongshan culture, the cognition of academia roughly experienced a process from fuzzy to clear. In chronological order, this section will systematically summarized and sorted to the past views.Partâ…¡,The group research of Niuheliang site and Xishuiquan site. Currently published archaeological materials, except Xiaodongshan site that the authors have made further analysis, it is clear in stratigraphy of Niuheliang site and Xishuiquan site. This section focuses on the materials of the two sites. According to the chronological relationship, divides the materials into groups and researches their relationship.Partâ…¢,The group and time of the other sites unearthed relic.There is no definite relationship in stratigraphy,except Niuheliang site and Xishuiquan site.It is hard to make further research in group division and dating judgement through analyses the Pottery shape and making style.This section compares the unearthed ware from Sandaowanzi,Erdaoliang,Silengsha,Zhuanshanzi,Xinglongwa F133 and F106,Baiyinchanghan,Charisitai,Nantaizi,Daqintala,Niuheliangâ… ,â…¡site,Hutougou,Zhizhushan,Dongshanzui with the typical pottery which have been defined groups,thus to judge their groups.Partâ…£,The stages division and dating judgement of the Hongshan culture. Comprehensive above research, On the basis of stratigraphy, through analyses Pottery shapes and cooccurrence relation, eventually divided the currently published materials of the Hongshan culture into three stages.The first stage:In the early period of Yangshao age, the time is equal to the later period of Banpo culture and Hougang I culture, roughly during BC 4500 to 4000 years.The second stage:In the middle period of Yangshao age, the time is equal to the Miaodigou culture, roughly during BC 4000 to 3500 years.The third stage:In the later period of Yangshao age, the time is equal to Miaozigou culture, roughly during BC 3500 to 3000 years.
