In the past few decades, great changes have taken place in the world. Globalization has speed up all the changes. With the development of science and technology, globalization has shortened the time and distance of the world dramatically. The world becomes smaller and smaller. After we entered the 21st century, the speed of globalization is faster and faster. It proceeds to everywhere of the world. Although globalization is a term in fields of economics and finance at the very beginning, this progress does have effects on the environment, on political systems, and on culture and on language as well.Language basically is for communication and is closely associated with its environment. As an important means of communication, language plays a more and more vital and influential role in globalization. At the same time, languages are changing under the circumstance of globalization. So does their status. So we can see that globalization and language are two interrelated variables.Based on former researches, the present thesis tries to analyze a sum of different factors which influence the status of a language. Then, the author discusses how globalization affects the global status of languages in the world. At last, the thesis predicts the future of languages and their possible status change under globalization.
