In English teaching activities, the teaching of writing has always been weak. Actually, the so-called English writing is a process during which the students engage in effective written expressions according to their experience and apprehension. At present, most colleges and universities have adopted the traditional teaching approaches of English writing. Such approaches neglect the students as the center and teachers replace them in the teaching activities.Cooperative Learning is a teaching approach in which the learners cooperate with each other in a group to improve the learning efficiency for the common goal. It has already been recognized as the effective teaching strategy and theory. Many researchers and scholars have applied the Cooperative Learning to the teaching of English writing and reached the expected effect. However, most of the studies aim at the English writing teaching in high schools and colleges; the study in the Higher Vocational College is seldom seen.This study was conducted in Shijiazhuang Information Engineering Vocational College, which is a vocational school that has synthesized subjects. There are altogether 80 non-English major students took part in the experiment. The subjects are in their second year of college. They all participated in CET-4. This thesis, aiming at solving the problems of inefficient mastery of knowledge and lack of confidence in English writing learning, based on the theory of Cooperative Learning, has proposed "Cooperative-Learning based model of English writing teaching" by analyzing the practical situation in writing teaching. Two questionnaires are conducted to know about the students' attitudes to the writing and learning before and after the experiment. Scores writing from students'CET-4 test are adopted to test their writing proficiency.The study reveals that through the implementation of Cooperative Learning, the students' writing abilities and confidence in writing have been improved greatly. The students come to be the center, the awareness of cooperation has been reinforced and learning enthusiasm increased. What's more, by Cooperative Learning, the class atmosphere and the students' attitude has been improved, motivation and interests have also been increased. Through the application of Cooperative Learning to the English writing teaching in Higher Vocational Colleges, the expected effects have been reached, which proves that it is an effective and applicable teaching method. The study explores a teaching organizational formation which is adjusted to the features of the school and the students, and it is practical for exploring the reform of teaching of English writing in Higher Vocational Colleges.
