Competence in stylistic translation is one of the most important aspects in evaluating the translator's translation competence. The improvement in translation competence is greatly limited for a translator without stylistic translation awareness. Hence, as the initial stage of the teaching of translation, the undergraduate teaching of translation is to value the cultivation of stylistic translation awareness highly. Nevertheless, some investigations indicate that both theoretical research and teaching practice in the existing undergraduate teaching of stylistic translation are either absent or deficient; students'stylistic translation awareness is rather faint. Based on the investigation results and their implications, the relevant researches on stylistics, translatology, and conceptual blending theory, this thesis first suggests that undergraduate teaching may pay much more attention to the cultivation of stylistic translation awareness. Then, the author proposes that against such teaching objectives as general translator, stylistic translation at the undergraduate level should take the cultivation of general and systematic stylistic translation awareness as guiding ideology. Finally, the author puts forward a model for the undergraduate teaching of stylistic translation. At the end of the thesis, a case in point is provided as further illustration of the model. The purposes of the thesis are to reveal the essence of the teaching of stylistic translation and explore some potential solutions to the existing problems it faces in terms of teaching ideas and practice.
