| Geographic names are often rich in cultural content and is related to national language, social, land, history, cultural practices and other aspects and is an important part of national culture. The geographic names'translation also carries the important task of national cultural heritage. However, Overview today's geographic names'translation, although most are appropriate, we still found cultural distortion that caused by improper translation of place names.The thesis used the "Chinese and Mongolian Comparison Manual of Inner Mongolian Geographical Names " as the main analytical material, and combined with the name records of cities'and unions'I collected. Used cultural translation theory and method made a more detailed research into geographic names'translation in Inner Mongolia area. by analysis the problems presence in geographic names'translation, searched the causes and proposed a countermeasure and quality assessment program.The paper is consists of introduction, main body and summary.The introduction part is mainly about the profile, the situation of study of geographic names' translation, the reason of topic choosing, research methods, significance and purpose of the study.The chapter one, described the cultural characteristics of geographic names and proposed that geographic names'translation should focus on its'cultural connotations.The chapter two, analysis the existing contradictions through the translation process of geographic names, and tried to resolve conflicts to unify and standardize the translation names.The chapter three, describes several common methods used in names translation, the problems in translation of geographic names, and offered a few solutions.The chapter four, discusses the significance and necessity qualitative assessment of the translation names. and proposed the assessment should include social function, loyalty nad the aesthetic expressionThe summary, analysis the principles and some major notes should follow when translating geographic names.
