In today's economic increasingly globalized world, intercultural communication has become a realistic demand. The increasingly frequent exchanges between people tend to offer more opportunities for us to face a variety of ideas and cultural behavior, and the resulting intercultural communication barriers and cultural misunderstandings are inevitable, which largely affects harmonious inter-communication and cooperation between different cultures. Timely and effective way to overcome these communication barriers to cross-cultural communication is the key to successful intercultural communication which has great significance not only for personal development, interpersonal exchanges and friendly cooperation, but also for peaceful coexistence among nations.Language is the carrier of culture, so in this case, language, culture, and society should be seen as an inseparable whole. Culture teaching is an important part of language teaching and cultural content of teaching should focus on "communication culture" infiltration, namely, social customs, communication regulations, the national psychology, ways of thinking, values and other cultural aspects are introduced from the cultural perspective. Socio-economic development puts forward higher requirements for foreign language proficiency of students, but it seems that our English language teaching, to a certain extent, gives no focus on intercultural communicative competence, meanwhile, the intercultural communication failures and obstacles have not been effectively removed. Therefore, fostering intercultural communicative competence in English language teaching has been pressing.Intercultural interpersonal relationship is the interpersonal communication that exists between individuals from different cultural backgrounds. It has not only a general commonality of human relationships but also intercultural specificity. Factors affecting intercultural interpersonal relationships are varied, and among them, culture is one of the most important ones. Under the influence of different cultures, the west and the east form different interpersonal relationships. Generally speaking, China has group-oriented relationships, focusing on affection, while western interpersonal relationship is individual-oriented, concentrating on liberty and equality. Based on the former studies, the thesis intends to make a brief and systematic summary of, generalization and comparison between the interpersonal relationships in China and in the English-speaking countries. Through detailed analysis, we can understand the characteristics and differences in interpersonal relationship between China and the English-speaking countries which provide theoretical foundation for us to deal with more complicated interpersonal relationship. In the thesis, intercultural interpersonal relationship theories will be integrated with foreign language teaching in order to examine the feasibility of application of the intercultural interpersonal relationship theories to teaching English majors, trying to find practical ways in language learning, at the same time overcoming communication barriers, enhancing students'intercultural communication competence.Based on these reflections, this study will focus on the following issues:First, whether learning the intercultural interpersonal relationship theories is helpful in improving English-major students'intercultural communication competence?Second, in what aspects that the intercultural interpersonal relationship theories can improve the students'intercultural communication competence?Third, what teaching methods can help to improve students'intercultural communication competence?The last, what advantages inputting intercultural interpersonal relationship theories have in foreign language teaching?In the paper, two classes in the English department were chosen as subjects, one as the experimental class, and the other as the control class. Different teaching methods and teaching contents are applied in the teaching of the two classes to verify the effectiveness of penetration of the theories of intercultural interpersonal relationships in English language teaching to improve students'intercultural communicative competence. The research intends to conduct investigations and analysis on the causes of the problems and find solutions. Data and statistics from tests, questionnaires and client's feedback tables will be analyzed.The results are as follows:first of all, applying intercultural relationship theories to English language teaching is helpful to improving student's academic achievements; moreover, students'training in intercultural interpersonal relationship theories have made significant progress in intercultural communicative competence, such as expressive ability, social etiquette, cooperative ability, interpersonal interactional ability. Some extra-curricular teaching activities have been proved to be effective in improving the students' intercultural communication competence. Then, according to survey, the paper also provides some constructive suggestions in broaden cultural teaching content and cultivating intercultural communication competence skills. Meanwhile, the study also point out the limitations in the experiment.
