The Research Of Chinese Film Industry Development Model

The restructuring and development of Chinese film industry is the top priority in the reforms of the cultural system. Chinese film industry's inherent requirement is to make itself bigger and stronger to explore the international market. Coincidentally, following the 2008 financial crisis, the downturn of the GDP and the upturn of Chinese film industry revealed that the film industry could resist the negative impact of economic crisis, thus it had an advantage over other industries and possessed large potential for further development. In this context, only the scientific and effective development model is found, can Chinese film industry's advantage be made full use of and the sharp rise of Chinese film industry be expected.The revitalization and prosperity of Chinese film industry has two far-reaching significances:(1) It increases the overall strength of Chinese film industry and even the strength of Chinese culture industries, thus speeds up the restructuring of culture industries; (2) It inspires the participants of Chinese film industry to explore and protect ethnic cultural resources, so that avoids such phenomenons like overseas enterprises'occupation of Chinese culture's copyrights, or the cultural discount suffered by local enterprises in the international market.In this paper, the American film industry is taken as the example of mature film industry to explain the history of industry reforms and the implementation of deregulation and anti-monopoly policies. Furthermore, the South Korean film industry is also chosen as the typical infant film industry to analyze the industrial mechanism and encouraging policies behind the revival of film industry since 1995. Through the comparison of the American and the South Korean film industries, some basic rules and common experience can be summoned. On this basis, SCP paradigm is used to describe the status quo of Chinese film industry, and to find the problems and their causes in the rapid development. Then, the gap between Chinese and foreign film industries can be clearly seen.The comparison and analysis indicates that the development of Chinese film industry depends on breakthroughs and reforms in three fields:(1) As to concept, the traditional concept that the film industry chain is just composed of film production, distribution and exhibition should be abandoned, more attention should be paid to pre-financing and post-derivatives, and holistic thinking is necessary in the development; (2) As to industrial mechanism, the traditional film industry development model should be reformed and a scientific and rational industrial mechanism which includes a financial assurance mechanism, a producer system, rational marketing practices, sound copyright protection and rich derivatives, should be built timely; (3) As to institutional environment, with the opportunity of the reform of cultural system and the understanding of the actual situation of Chinese film industry, the government should improve services, enhance regulatory functions, and introduce more favorable policies to support the revitalization and prosperity of Chinese film industry.
