Tracing to its source, the apparel decoration design happened from ancient time to the present and meanwhile different countries, different nations have their own decoration color system, design and techniques. Although the concept of the apparel has short history, the decoration design has long history comparing with it. The decoration design as well as the apparel industry is accompanying synchronously with the culture, art, politics and the economy. The emergence of each current of thought can bring huge influence to the decoration design. It is not difficult to make clear, when analyzing its development process, that the apparel decoration design is with the development of the society of periodic repetition, no matter how its existence or from luxury to the simple. The apparel decoration design has something to do with the human aesthetic habit. In the postmodern context, the apparel design appears new look and characteristic, and the apparel decoration design also has great changes in style.This dissertation focuses on the design principles and main features of the apparel decoration design from the perspective of apparel design in the postmodern context by the way of sorting a great deal of design and pattern data, analyzing the market research and the real cases, comparing their relationships between the cases, etc. On the base of the related concepts and design principles research in the post-modernism and modern apparel design, this dissertation also summarizes the analysis and research of the main factors of the apparel decoration design (color, pattern design, material, technology, etc.), in the context of consumption mental foundation and impact factor.Chinese apparel decoration design research has its own features because of its state of the nation and development method. Postmodernism design brings the impact on the traditional ethics idea, and at the same time the long history art accumulation provides the new exotic inspiration for the postmodernism design. But the imperfection of innovation consciousness then enlarges the contradiction, embodying the monotonous result in "homogeneity" of the design products, lacking of the thorough principle and design value research of their own nation. This makes the native apparel and decoration design lack of the groundwork; no famous native brands were grown. So, how to carry on the apparel decoration design in the postmodern context? Premising the postmodern context, this dissertation presents the apparel decoration design research and study, finds out the methods of solving the actual problems according to the doubt and shortage existing in the current market, and provides the correct way of thinking for the future design by dint of this research. Being one part the decoration cultural, the apparel decoration design by all means bases on the globalization background, combines the regulation in the market, uses consumption psychology and particular apparel decoration design factors and informs the principle of the brand culture to the consumers. Through the academic interdisciplinary theory, this dissertation carries on the systematical argument and tries to put forward to the principle and method of the apparel postmodern design, and thoroughly hopes to understand the aesthetic characteristics of the postmodernism. In this way, this dissertation tries to master the usage of the apparel postmodern design elements, analyzes the design phenomenon of the postmodern context with the theory of Psychology and Semiology. Furtherly, it guides the design action with the study conclusion, and then promote apparel products' quality and brand value. The last but the most, the dissertation also points out that the apparel postmodern design is the accumulation and sublimation of the mankind civilization. It will have the guiding significance of Chinese contemporary design and innovation.
