| For modern people, there are various ways to obtain the information, and one of the most primary ways is reading newspapers. For English fans and learners, reading English newspapers is an effective way to enrich the knowledge of language and culture. Meanwhile, since news has the ever-changing language characteristics, readers can perceive the latest development of language in the reading process.With the international exchange among countries deepening and the worldwide employment of English, many countries have published their own English edition newspapers at present. However, are there any similarities or differences in English news reporting written by native speakers and those written by non-English language speakers? In order to trace the answer, two newspapers, Global Times (English edition, published in China) and The New York Times (published in America) are selected to compare and analyze their stylistic features.Under the framework of General Stylistics Theory, this thesis mainly makes a brief contrastive analysis between ten selected samples from Global Times and The New York Times the topics of which are about the same events—the relationship between South Korea and North Korea. Through these systematic stylistic features analysis—the linguistic description, textual analysis and contextual factors analysis, it can observe that there are some similarities and differences between the sample pairs. These similarities and differences chiefly perform in language and function layer.The practical significance of the research is to illustrate the similarities and differences between English international news reports selected from two newspapers. In this way, it can enhance the English fans and learners'ability of reading and enhance their appreciation about newspapers. Moreover, they may gain fluency and naturalness in their use of target language. |
