| The present study aims to detect stylistic similarities and differences between English sports news reporting in China's English newspaper (China Daily) and American newspaper (The USA Today) on the assumption that there do exist stylistic similarities and differences though both of them are English language newspapers in order to enrich the study of journalistic English and sports English as well as enriching the theory of stylistics by widening its application.Findings show that there do exist stylistic similarities and differences between English sports news reporting of the two newspapers on four stylistic levels which are lexical level, graphological level, syntactic level and textual level.The thesis includes five chapters. Chapter One is the Introduction to the present thesis. Chapter Two gives a review of the literature of the theoretical structure, previous researches on journalistic English and sports news. Chapter Three describes the research methodology including the research design and data collection, analyzing the selected data of the two newspapers. Chapter Four discusses the results and implications of the research and suggests further areas of the research. Chapter Five is the Conclusion.The results of the present thesis are only suggestive for the study on English sports news language between China and America, EFL teaching in China and the development of China English. More elaborate descriptions and analysis of the similarities and differences are necessitated in the future study of the English language of sports news reporting.
