The research aim of the thesis is to explore English teachers' knowledge structure in senior high school in the background of the new English curriculum standard. The writer wants to use the empirical approach to investigate teachers' knowledge structure, to see what knowledge is necessary for teachers and the present situation of teachers'knowledge structure in Shenyang senior high schools in process of implementing the new curriculum standard. The research question is:What is the present situation of teachers' knowledge structure? What is the situation of teachers' knowledge are required in the new curriculum standard? How would teachers perfect their knowledge structure?To explore the knowledge structure of English teachers, the writer conducted a study in four senior high Schools. The 78 English teachers in four schools took part in the study. Based on the quantitative research methodology, the data are collected by three types of information:questionnaires, interviews and classroom observation. Based on the study, the writer conclude the features of teachers'knowledge structure and puts forward the challenges brought by the new curriculum standard, the knowledge necessary for English teachers, and the suggestions for English teachers to perfect their knowledge structure.The thesis is composed of the following chapters:Chapter One, Introduction. It provides the purpose and significance of the thesis; Chapter Two, Literature Review. It introduces teachers' knowledge structure and the new English curriculum standard, and reviews some related researches; Chapter Three, Methodology. It outlines a questionnaire involved in the research process. Interview and classroom observations are adopted to investigate teachers'knowledge structure;Chapter Four, Results and Discussions. It presents the results of the study. At the same time, it has a further discussion on the results; Chapter Five, Conclusion. It indicates the findings of the research and implications for English teaching. Limitations of the study and suggestions for further study are also presented.
