English language teaching in China has long been influenced by traditional educational concepts and traditional teaching methods. As a result, researches dwell on'how'to teach and'what'to teach, and teaching is still'teacher-centered'. To discover the causes rooting in this inefficiency, we must turn our attention to the study of learner-centeredness and learner's non-intellectual factors.Contemporarily, most technical schools are facing some disturbing problems in English teaching, such as the students'low initiative in studying and the teachers' ineffectiveness in teaching. Through many years of teaching practice and exploration, the author thinks the lack of emotion in education is an important reason of ineffectiveness in present English teaching. The teachers should change the inadequate teaching ideas and methods and carry out the emotional education which requires the teachers not only pay attention to the cognitive factors but also the emotional one and develop students'initiative in order to achieve teaching purpose and improve the teaching effect.This study, on the basis of various previous studies of affective teaching and learning,, aims to explore the relationship between affective teaching in technical school English class and the effects of affective factors on foreign language learning. This thesis is intended to answer the following research questions.1. How does affective teaching influence the affective factors of learners?2. What is the relationship between affective teaching and the academicperformance of students?The study combines the quantitative and qualitative approaches. The quantitative data is collected through the questionnaire and tests, which are analyzed through SPSS (10.0) and qualitative data are collected through interview.'Humanistic'affective teaching is the theme of the study. It mainly discusses the root of the theory, the factors of learner and teacher in effective language teaching in ELT, and how to use the factors in learning and teaching It also discusses the theoretical and practical aspects of affective language teaching, and some suggestions for further research are given.
