A Study On The Comparison And Fusion Between "Blue Civilization" And "Yellow Civilization"

As pointed out by experts and scholars of western culture, the history of mankind is a procedure of cultures'development. From this perspective, the history of human culture is the history of different cultures'communication, integration and continuous innovation. So it is essential to make specific review, comparative studies and make objective and accurate value judgments about Chinese and western cultures on the pattern of human culture. It may directly affect how we introduce and learn from other cultures.In this paper, on the basis of introduction and profound understanding of the western and Chinese civilization, combing the view of geographical environment factors, the author takes "Yellow Civilization" and "Blue Civilization" as study case, makes efforts to overcome cultural prejudices, understands cultural facts, and introduces the initial factor in the formation of the two civilizations from the analysis of the background and foundation of two civilizations.Subsequently, the author uses the parallel study method to make inspection on thinking, ethical values and social norms, and so on. Both Chinese civilization and western civilization have their own strengths and weaknesses. Humanistic spirit and moral reasoning of Chinese civilization are essential in post-modern society of the western world. The scientific spirit and instrumental rationality of western civilization are indispensable in the process of modernization of China. Although the two civilizations have experienced a long history of accumulation, they are not highly developed civilizations and there are many defects and shortcomings. Moreover, on many levels, their developments are complementary.Finally, based on the similarities and differences of two civilizations, the author makes a review of the communication and influence of the two civilizations and forecasts the integrating trend of them, proposing new characteristics and the development trend of new civilization.According to their ancient geographic conditions, this thesis explores the origins of western and Chinese civilization; thus two definitions are given:the western civilization can be called "Blue Civilization" and Chinese civilization can be called "Yellow Civilization". They have similarities and differences, even unconquerable imperfection. Owing to these factors and their uninterrupted contact and communication, they are in a process of acculturating and fusing, and finally a new pattern of civilization—"Green Civilization" is formed, which is a brand new and would-be civilization. The "harmony" shown by "Green Civilization" is not in a static condition, but in the balanced harmony of movement.
