Professor Ji Mao, well-known dance educator, is the first generation of dancers after the founding of the People's Republic of China. He has been working in the field for 50 years. He joined the army at early age and started dancing since then. He has participated in the rehearsal of the large-scale dance epic, "Dong Fang Hong", and was received by the party and state leaders. In his long term performance and teaching practice, he establishes a set of rich, complete and characteristic system of teaching. His has precise insights on both training techniques and theoretical studies. Therefore, the study of Ji Mao's dance teaching philosophy and ideas is of great value on dance teaching.During his teaching at Henan University, he devoted himself in the construction of dancing classes, contributing a lot to Henan University as well as Henan Province. On his initiative, dancing course was introduced professional courses into colleges and universities. This move offers Henan University the leading position in dance education among colleges and universities across the country. The author hopes that through narration and analysis of Professor Ji Mao's art career, his philosophy and methods of dance teaching would be beneficial for other teachers.Based on the interviews of professor Ji Mao, using the methods of documentation, investigation and analysis, this paper summarizes the content, teaching methods and teaching characteristics of Ji Mao's dance teaching. Throughout the discussion, first-hand information from interviews is the focus of research.Although Professor Ji Mao is over sixty years old, he still on the front line of dance teaching. He has dedicated his life to the art of dance, the pursuit of his life, reflecting the character of the scholars. He is a model for our younger generation.
