Sun Dayu, classified as a poet of "New Moon Group", is a prolific poetry translator though he didn't create as much poem of his own. Two unique credits can be honored to him in academia, the first of which would be establishing his own theory about metrical poem. The other accomplishment is his prolific translation works, which includes eight Shakespeare's dramas and lots of translation works concerning both English poems and Chinese poems. The thesis will focus on Sun Dayu's theory about metrical poem at the beginning, in which part it will show us the origin of metrical poem in detail. It is this theory that has guided Sun through the following translation work.Chapter two The Impacts of Sun's Theory about Metrical Poetry on the Translation of English Poems mainly includes the following parts. In the era of new poetry, Sun Dayu is the first to suggest translating Shakespeare's works in poetic style, with the concept "meter" of metrical poems replacing Shakespeare's iambic pentameter, which can help maximize the resemblance between the original work and the translation version. Based on his knowledge about the rhythm of English poetry, he tried to convey the original phonological rhythm of those famous English poems with his theory about metrical poetry.Chapter three The Impacts of Sun s Theory about Metrical Poetry on the Translation of Chinese Poems shows us the achievements Sun has made in the translation of Chinese poems. Based on his experience of translation, he has taken the poems' meters, the culture gap into full consideration and created a lot of great translation works which vividly convey the original meanings and artistic features to the foreign readers and greatly promote the cultural exchange. Finally the thesis makes objective conclusion about his contributions to the translation which he has made under his theory of metrical poems and honors his dedications in the translation field.
