With the rapid development of China's economy and the improvement of the comprehensive national strength in recent years, more and more foreigners choose study, work and live in China. As a result, teaching Chinese as a foreign language (TCFL) developed rapidly.At present, there are two types of teaching mode in teaching Chinese as a foreign language:classroom teaching and individual teaching. These two types meet needs of the foreigners with various purposes. But most of the teachers have focused on the classroom teaching, because it has certain teaching scale, and is easy to form groups of cohesion. Even so, we cannot ignore the existence of individual teaching group. After all, there are many teachers who not only engage in classroom teaching, but also in individual teaching, so they need to transfer between both of the two teaching modes.This thesis is written under the guidance of the theories on classroom teaching and individual teaching. The author chose the classes and individual teaching students that she taught as subjects, and employed the method of interview and classroom observation. After the discussion on the teaching objective, the purpose of the students, teaching methods, etc., and after the comparison between the different teaching characteristics of the two types of teaching modes, it has found out the commonness and individuality between the two modes. It has also proposed that the TCFL teachers need to adjust their teaching notions and teaching methods according different teaching modes, in order to satisfy students'learning requirements, and to improve the teaching quality.
