There are a lot of frame structures in modern Chinese. This article studies a series of four-character frame structures which are consisting of antonymous localizers. All the localizers in frame structures haVe functionalized and grammatical meaning of frame structure is related to the functionalization of the localizers closely. The grammatical meaning of frame structure is restricted by the direction and degree of the functionalization of the localizers. Meanwhile, the processes of the grammaticalization are unbalanced and there are certain cognitive motivations behind.Using the theory of grammaticalization and cognitive linguistics, this article systemically analyses the semantic eVolVement and the functionalization process of this series of frame structures.Firstly, the article defines the conception of frame structures with localizers in pairs and analyses the formation of this kind of frame structures, including the characteristics of the invariable terms and the Variable terms, inner structure and classification.Secondly, based on the polysemy of the structures on the diachronic leVel, the article analyses the clues of functionalization of the localizers and the semantic eVolVement of the frame structures, and looks for Verificafion on the synchronic leVel.Finally, the article compares the clues of functionalization, sums up the resemblances and the differences, analyses the causes of the developing unbalancedness and summarizes the systematicness of the frame structures with localizers in pairs.
