Yao nationality is one member of the minority nationalities in China. Except using Chinese and languages of other minorities, Yao people have various kinds of languages of their own. The language of Yao people in Jianghua Yao Autonomous County is a subgroup of Mian dialect, Miao-Yao language branch and Sino-Tibetan family. The study built a Mian dialect voice database through collecting raw language materials, and modern phonetic methods were introduced to do acoustic analysis of long and short vowels. The first chapter gives a brief introduction of Yao people, Yao languages, the geography and population of Jianghua County. The status of language use and research, key points, significance and methods are also presented in this chapter. The Mian dialect voice database is described in the second chapter, including three parts:words, sentences and paragraphs with detailed information in each part.On the basis of the first and the second chapters, Jinyuan Mian phonology system is concluded in the third chapter. The fourth chapter probes into the contradiction of long and short vowels, and mainly focuses on timbre and tone of long and short vowels through the method of acoustics. The fifth chapter is the conclusion of this study. The study built the first Mian dialect database and does acoustic analysis for Mian dialect, which fills up the blank in this field.
