In general, study of instrument component of ancient Chinese is only found in those academic works about introductive function of preposition Yi. There is no special research on it. Based on the research results of traditional syntax, following the method of "semantic to form", using the essence of case grammar theory, centered with the nonlinear character of deep semantic combination relation between nouns and verbs, and choosing the HanFeiZ(?) which well preserved ancient Chinese's features as researching material, we described the syntactic behavior of instrumental case in detail fully and clearly. The major achievements and main conclusions of this thesis are as follows:1. The basic formats of instrumental case are:"Yi NP+VP", "VP+Yi NP ", "NP+VP"," Vi(NP)+VP", Suo+YiVP".2. Using as adverbial modifier is the typical syntactic behavior of instrumental case, however, there are some limitations in form when using as complement and subject. Therefore, many variants are generated from " YiNP+VP".3.'Not as "Instrumental subject", "instrumental object" is not a reasonable and valid concept. The object after the verbs which has the meaning of using or relying on something should be considered as dative case. Only the whole predicate-object structure can be used as adverbial modifier representing a action-instrument relation.4. Classified by the contrary-complementary principle, the first level of variants of instrumental case contains tool, manner and cause. Material, content, trick, medium and force are on the second level.5. There are four semantic categories of verbs that present with the instrumental case:action, process, state and action-process. In the syntax, the instrumental case are tend to co-exist with Action Verbs and Process Verbs.6. Affected by the assimilation between Yistructure and double object structure, the instrumental adverbial modifier is transforming to instrumental object, as a new syntactic behavior of instrumental case.
