The scholarship of the defensive system of nine northern fortresses in Ming dynasty has expanded in recent years. But most of these are focused on the frontier defense. As for the researching on the Yulin city, most scholars paid a close attention on the city's environment change caused by regional exploitation and the management system of this military geography unit in Ming and Qing dynasty. Unfortunately, Academia scarcely considered Yulin city in a perspective of local towns rising and development. So the author entitled this thesis as "the rising process of Yulin city in Ming and Qing dynasty". This thesis based on the previous scholarship and historical material, and intends to investigate the history trajectory from rising to development of Yulin city.Yulin city is a military town which rising in the middle and late Ming dynasty with a specific historical. During this period, it experienced a special developing process——from a small village to a important military fortress in the Ming dynasty's northern defense system, and then it became one of a commerce center in northwest region of Ming with the social changes. During the city's development, the citizens there enjoyed a rich and characteristically life. The thesis aim to investigate Yulin city's the typical significance during its conversion process from a military town to a normal city through researching the developing process of this city in Ming and Qing dynasty.
