Taiwanization, which more and more native Taiwanese were appointed and promoted in political, was an important policy of Kuomintang (KMT) government when Chiang Ching-kuo had been the leader of Taiwan. Its purpose was to expand the rule basement of KMT.This article described and analyzed the history of the Taiwanization policy , and studied its background, reason, process, specialty and trend etc.The author thought that the history of the Taiwanization policy could be divided into two periods: the period of Chiang Ching-kuo (1970s—1988) and the period of Lee Teng-hui (1988—2000). But the article only studied the policy of Taiwanization during the period of Chiang Ching-kuo.The policy of Taiwanization was adopted after Chiang Ching-kuo held the real power of Taiwan KMT government early in the 1970s. It was the beginning of the policy. Taiwanization not only made more and more native Taiwanese hold office, but also put forward the political transformation in Taiwan. After Chiang Ching-kuo died in 1988, the native Taiwanese Lee Teng-hui became the leader of KMT and Taiwan. It was an important symbol of Chiang Ching-kuo's Taiwanization. During Lee Teng-hui period, the Taiwanization became the means of Lee Teng-hui to blackball the old offices of KMT whose native place is mainland. Lee Teng-hui's Taiwanization not only broke up the KMT, but also made KMT lose its regime.
