As a transitional dialect, Xingtai dialect is an important member of mandarin in dialects.Suffix Zi is a hot issue in the current academia. This thesis centers on Suffix Zi of Xingtaidialect which consists of five chapters. The first chapter is Introduction. Firstly it introduces the geographical situation andhistory of Xingtai in terms of its evolution. Secondly it is the situation of this topic, theresearch significance and object. Finally it introduces the methods and theories of researchingon this topic and the sources of the material .The second chapter is about phonetic forms and features of Suffix Zi. We first of all give adescription of Suffix Zi of Xingtai dialect, which is composed of three types: [ts ] figurations,[t(?)] figurations, [(?)] figurations and [t ] figurations. Secondly the description and analysiswill be given concerning the changes of rhymes of Suffix Zi.The third chapter is the number of Suffix Zi in Xingtai dialect. First we compare andanalyze the using of Suffix Zi in different counties of Xingtai. We found that in the southernpart of Xingtai city, the number of Suffix Zi is decreasing gradually. Then we compared theSuffix Zi with mandarin and found that most Suffix Zi words that in mandarin are used inXingtai dialect but some are not. And there are a lot of Suffix Ziswords in Xingtai dialectwhich are not used in mandarin. This paper describes the classification of Suffix Zi and makesa conclusion on this basis: The number of Suffix Zi words in Xingtai dialect is more than thosein mandarin. Finally we compared them with five kinds of Suffix Zi words in WeiXian dialectof Handan and got the conclusion that the number of Suffix Zis in Xingtai dialect is less thanthat in WeiXian dialect. The fourth chapter is about Suffix Zi and Non Suffix Zi. Firstly I described and analyzedthe relationship between Suffix Zi words and retroflection words in Xingtai dialect. Mainlyfrom three aspects of the study: 1. Suffix Zis and retroflection words coexist. In this condition, they have obvious complementary relationship. We can sum up into three types: Namely "big"and "small"; "Bad" and "good"; and other complementary relationships. 2. Use retroflectionwords instead of Suffix Zi words. Some Suffix words in mandarin only have the form of retroflection words in Xingtai dialect. And those retroflection words do not have the same meaning as in Mandarin. 3. The retroflection of Suffix Zi words. Next we analyzed the way of word formation of zi suffix by stem morpheme directly. For example: ai (ai zi), ba(ba zi), bao(bao zi), ben(benzi), erji(erji zi), fengmen(fengmen zi) etc.The fifth chapter is the conclusion. It is mainly a content summary of the whole article and proposes the unresolved issues and the future research direction.
