An Ethical Review Fo The "Network Hype'

The wide use of the Internet opens the door for the human beings to enter the virtual world from the real world. The hot topics and figures in the network society have begun to walk into and influence our real life. The "Network Hype" phenomenon has especially aroused peoples concern. "Internet hype", taking the Internet as a carrier, is a new form of hype which is bounded to have differences with the traditional means of hype. It has the characteristics of higher spread interactiveness, broader communication channels and more rapid propagation.The survival way of the Internet has strongly impacted the traditional norms of social behavior and the value criteria, overturning the living environment and the ways of communication of the human beings. Not only has "Internet hype" challenged and impacted the traditional values, misled the publics aesthetic values, but also weakened the publics moral awareness as well as the awareness of social responsibility and strengthened the publics eagerness for quick success and instant benefits. These new ethical issues and moral confusion is due to the characteristics of the network itself, which has the functions of transmissing information, guiding public opinion, propagandizing news and providing entertainment and so on. Therefore, we should face up to the influences of "network hype" on the public life and the moral field to improve the network ethics on the basis of the excellent ethical and moral principles of the traditional society. Meanwhile, we should vigorously carry forward the spirit of humanity in the virtual world and actively seek solutions to the problems to guide the moral values in the virtual world back to normal as that in daily life. In this thesis, it is thought that three tasks should be well done: promote the construction of ethical system in the network; regularize the " network hype" behaviors and create a healthy network environment; establish a sound mechanism of supervision by public opinion to improve the net citizens discerning and immunity as well as establish the correct network outlook for honor; strengthen the publics sense of moral self-discipline, enhance the professional ethics of people and improve the relative subjects consciousness to follow the network morality.
