Objective To study the status and influential factors of problem behavior in early stage in middle school students in the region of Anhui Province, in order to provide a theoretical basis for reducing the incidences of problem behavior and juvenile delinquents.Methods 2 middle schools in Hefei were selected by using stratified cluster sampling, and all selected middle school students including 4011 students were surveyed. With the help of investigator, the students filled out the anonymous questionnaire voluntarily, including the questionnaires named demographic characteristics of students and parents, Prediction Test of Problem Children(PPCT), Family Environment Scale-Chinese Version (FES-CV), Simple Coping Style Questionnaire (SCSQ) and Psychological Sense of School Membership(PSSM). On the basis of univariate analysis, multiple logistic regression analysis was utilized to explore the relationship among the demographic characteristics of the students and parents, family environment, school belonging and coping, and the dependent variable was problem behavior.Results The incidence of problem behaviors in full scale is 4.5%, while 6.8% in inadaptability of interpersonal, 8.0 % in emotional instability, 16.5% in learning inadaptability, respectively. There was significant difference of the incidence of problem behaviors between male students and female students. There was a significant association between communication with parents, teacher-student relationship, peer relationship. The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that gender, communication with mother, peer relationship, family environment, school belonging and coping maybe were the influential factors of problem behavior in early stage in middle school.Conclusions Problem behavior of middle school students in the region is widespread. The incidence of problem behaviors is related to family environment, school belonging, etc. It is necessary to encourage home-school co-operation in mental health education among children and young people to reduce the incidence of problem behaviors.
