This thesis is dedicated to the study of the evaluation of English textbooks for the foundation stage of vocational education, to found a reasonable and practical evaluation system, and it also deals with a specific case-the analysis of New Practical English. Based on the review of previous researches and the researcher's practice of teaching NPE, the thesis sets ten evaluating principles for the specific stage, which are "Textbooks should have Sound Theoretical Basis", "Textbooks Should Abide by Syllabus or Requirements", "Textbooks Should Contain Systematic Knowledge", "Textbooks Should Have Hierarchical Arrangement of Contents", "The Assessment System of the Textbooks Should Satisfy Teacher's Actual Needs", "Textbooks Should Satisfy Students' Needs", "Textbooks Should Have Sufficient Supporting Materials","Textbooks Should Consider Actual Teaching Resources and Restrictions", "Textbooks Should Have Its Advantages", and "Textbooks Should be Made in High Quality". And the ten principles are divided into several criteria and applied on the evaluation of NPE, and then, there are questionnaires for 30 teachers and 220 students who are using the textbook. The evaluation shows that the textbook is of student-centered and learner-friendly design, highlights learning by doing and the practical language skills, contains rich materials, etc.; its disadvantages are the lack of concern about grammar, the unevenness of difficulty in different units, and the insufficient topics in considering Basic Requirements.
