As one of the main publications of the July School, uniting the Anti-Japanese War and liberation war, Hope has stridden over the wartime capital Chongqing and the international metropolis Shanghai. Hope started its publication in 1945.Lacking of funds, the publishing are difficult. Surviving in dilemma, Hope has published two sets which consist of eight issues in total. The first set is published in Chongqing and the second in Shanghai. The first set has a small amount of reprint in Shanghai, too. As a continuation of July, the purpose and the contents of the Hope have a deep relationship with it. Keeping on carrying out the ideology of July in edition, Hope has maintained its characteristic of enlightenment and combat stance closely related to the reality all along. In addition, it refuses mediocrity and hypocrisy. Compared with the pure character of July, Hope's contents become abundant and the range of genre has extended as well. Besides the original style of July such as poetry, novel, essay, literature review and essays in touch with politics, even some fables among the folk. In close relation to the reality, Hope has won great population at that time so far as that people queue up for it.By reading the poems in Hope, we can see the July poets' consciousness of time and life. Expressing in their poems, that's the desire for successful career. As a result, they have mighty consciousness of mission. The July poets keep sober-minded, so their thoughts over life manifest not only in the pursuit of their significance of life, but also in terms of compassion for the labour mass who toil and moil in the low stratum of society. Meanwhile, sneering at the decadent and dissolute life to the upper circles is part of their thoughts. What's more, broaden the enquiry for the meaning of life, the July School think deep in life style of the whole humanity and consider how to make a man mix together with entire human history in the limited time. For life style, that is to say, there will be a join between a drop and sea in the transverse; in the vertical, it'll be a continuer.With regard to thinking of time and life as well as yearning for a better life, the July poets make them come true by the image "dream" in Hope. In detail, they sing of rural life, look forward to childlike innocence, run after simple and peaceful livelihood also satirize the "daydream" of those in power. On account of all kinds of reasons, the glorious dream of the July poets hasn't come into reality yet. Even though, they didn't lose heart and still keep on for a fine future.
