Chongqing, Located in the Yangtze River and the Jialing River of interchange, is the goods distribution center in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. Before opening, foreign powers use Hankou and Yichang customs to input foreign goods in the form of Transit trade.1891, under threat of the United Kingdom's military, Late Qing Government agreed to make Chongqing as a commercial port. After opening, Chongqing's import-export trade takes on a rapid development momentum. With the spread of trade, Chongqing becomes the commercial center in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River instead of traditional military town. In order to better explore the influence of opening of Chongqing on economic development in Sichuan even Southwest China, this article use quantitative analysis method to study the development, feature and commodity structure of Chongqing's import-export trade from 1873 to 1919, based on the original archive material, such as trade statistics and reports of Chongqing, Hankou and Yichang customs.Thesis comprises three key components:The first part, summarizes and analyses conditions and characteristics of the import-export trade prior to the opening of Chongqing.The second part, analyses the overall situation of import-export trade of Chongqing after opening and the factors that make changes in trade, then concludes the characteristics of the import-export trade and discuss commodity structure once more.The third part, explore the influence of opening of Chongqing.
