Communication strategies refer to the problem-oriented techniques one employs to attain a special communicative goal in second language acquisition. They can benefit English learners a lot in improving learners'communication competence. Based on communication strategy theory, this paper studies the effects of the CSs training in oral English class on 78 higher vocational college students whose major is English tourism of arts department in Fuxin Higher Vocational College. It proposes four research questions. By the interviews, questionnaires, and tests, the relevant data are collected and analyzed by statistics software. After further discussion, four research results are as follows:Firstly, the CSs-theoretic approach is proved to be effective in oral English teaching and students'oral English score even communication competence has been improved to a great extent. Secondly, the effects of CSs training are closely connected with the students'practical English proficiency. The higher the students'oral English proficiency is, the more likely they are to use CSs especially achievement strategies including L2-based strategies. High proficiency students also use less L1-based and reduction strategies. Thirdly, the training with the equipment of CSs theory improves students'awareness of CSs use in perception and also increases their frequencies of CSs employment in practice. Finally, CSs training in class do increase students'frequencies of using CSs especially L2-based strategies and decrease students'frequencies of L1-based strategies and reduction strategies not only in perception but also in practice.The pedagogical implications of CSs training to higher vocational college oral English teaching are important. CSs trainings do great help in promoting English teaching effects. It is suggested to elaborate proper CSs training into traditional teaching approach to enhance the progress in English teaching.
