Based on the four corpora CCL, LCMC, CCTFC and ECsearch, we probed into the six dummy verbs defined by Zhu Dexi from both diachronic and synchronic perspectives. Through the survey of the ancient Chinese part of CCL corpus, we presented visually the collocations and the syntactic processes of the dummy verbs. The survey of LCMC helped deepen our understanding of the similarities and differences between two sub-classes of dummy verbs and why such similarities and differences exist. At the same time, the English equivalences of the dummy verbs in CCTFC and ECsearch were listed and corresponding suggestions for TCSL were proposed. We propose teaching through problem-finding and solving practice in light of the different characteristics of the acquisition in English-speaking countries and Asian countries.
