As a kind of linguistic competence existing in the primary language-decoding phase, instinctive feel for the language, or simply called language sense, is a human's perception for the difference between information embodied in the language and the linguistic knowledge attained by oneself. The paper offers a brief review on the research history of language sense, displaying its essence and fundamental characteristics. Some preliminary comments by the author on language sense enhancement based on the basic experiences of teaching Chinese language for foreigners in China are also added.Considering the following basic features of language sense such as intuition, sudden enlightenment, phase division and limitations in attainment as well as the junior Chinese-learning stage the most of foreign students are stepping on, the paper puts its focuses on the summarization of the teaching methods for language sense enhancement in accordance with the five constituent parts of language sense, i.e. phonetic sense, semantic sense, lexical sense, pragmatic sense and grammatical sense. Pronunciation and speech sounds constitute the foundation for further Chinese learning, thus the phonetic sense enhancement turns superior in the cultivation of language sense; meanwhile, it's imperative to try to inspire students to greater interests in Chinese learning when teaching is in process. Vocabulary forms the cornerstone of a language, from the solid buildup of ordinary vocabulary come linguistic appropriateness and linguistic fluency, therefore teaching students how to widen their vocabulary becomes an important task for teachers. Completion of the role of enhancing semantic sense in a concrete context relies mainly on how high the level the teachers can reach in promoting students'sensibility to not only the superficial meaning of the language, but also the inner part of it. Grammar learning is usually regarded by students as a dull and tedious task, altering this situation is an effective way to promote students'grammatical sense. Finally, the goal for pragmatic sense enhancement is clearly set to strengthen the students with pragmatic competence of vocabulary in a concrete context.Following the analysis of the teaching methods for cultivating language sense, another analysis of the rationality and shortcomings in a current viewpoint of language sense teaching as well as a brief personal comment on the issue of language sense are presented.
