The purpose of language teaching is to help learners to acquire the practical ability of communicating in the target language. And the external expression of the ability is a good language sense. That’s why how to cultivate students’sense of Chinese in the process of teaching Chinese as a foreign language become an important task of Chinese teacher. Combined with my teaching practice during the internship at the Confucius Institute, I use language sense as the starting point of this paper, and study deeply on language sense and how to cultivate language sense, and try to find a new way to teach Chinese efficiently.This paper begins with the definition of the sense of language; Then analysing and summarizing the characteristics and functions of language sense; comparing Chinese language knowledge teaching and the sense of Chinese teaching; discussing how to cultivate the language sense in the process of language learning and how to cultivate the Chinese sense in the process of Chinese learning to a certain extent. The definition of language sense in this paper is the ability to have a sensitive feeling and a accurate understanding of the language. If the learners gain this ability, it will be helpful to improve their ability of communication—That’s the ultimate goal of language learning. Thus it is necessary for the teachers to cultivate students’the ability of Chinese sense. Chinese teachers need to develop and consolidate students’Chinese sense in the whole process of Chinese teaching. This kind of training and consolidation can be carry out and complete through a wide variety of specific teaching methods.
