The Study On Drugs' Chinese Trade Names

In this paper, we utilized the research methods of description and interpretation in quantitative and qualitative perspectives on 5,128 domestic and imported drugs' Chinese trade names with interview and survey. This paper discussed the short word length and loud musical characteristics of drugs' trade names, and classified the drugs'trade names into existed words and newly-coined words, and subdivided it into 18 types of words on this basis.The structural characteristics of drugs'trade names are the form of words and the form of phrases, and the rhetoric characteristics can be divided into two types, namely:aesthetics and creativity. We analyzed the cultural characteristics and psychological characteristics reflected by the drugs'trade names. We discussed the four functions of the drugs'trade names, namely:distinctions, recognition, advertising and pray. We analyzed the naming constraints, the naming principles and their priority sequence and pointed out that we may obtain an ideal drugs'Chinese trade name when we take the naming principles priority sequence into account and use as many principles as possible. Finally, we discussed the problems with the drugs' trade names, and gave some referential suggestions on the standardization of drugs'trade names.
