Cultural Linguistics Study Of Place Names In Hualien County, Taiwan Province, China

Geographical names are an important part of language vocabulary,which contain a profound cultural connotation and reflect the human social life at all levels of historical appearance.It is a combination of language and culture.In the geographical names system,different names have different compositions and characteristics of their own,reflecting the different cultural heritage.Therefore,geographical names record the continuous progress of the development of a region.They are the crystallization of human history and culture,and also the crystallization of human wisdom.Hualien County is located in the eastern part of Taiwan Island with a large population,which has also the most populous population of the county in Taiwan.Hualien County has a long history and rich resources,and its ethnic composition is relatively complex.Correspondingly,the geographical names in Hualien County are also diverse in many ways,and these complex and diverse names reflect the Hualien County's Unique language features and cultural characteristics in different ways.This paper mainly studies the language and culture of Hualian's county,county names,township names,tribal names and street names through linguistic analysis,literature reading analysis,map analysis and comparative analysis.The main contents of this paper are divided into the following parts:The first part is introduction,the main contents include the general situation of Hualian County,the research object,purpose and significance,research methods and toponymic profile.The second part is the first chapter in which the main content is the basis of naming Hualian County's geographical names.We discuss the origin of Hualian County's geographical names from several aspects:the geographical factors,historical factors,political factors,economic factors,cultural factors,language factors and so on.The third part is the second chapter in which the main content is the linguistic characteristics of geographical names.We analyze these geographical names comprehensively from several following aspects:the syllable features,word formation,rhetoric and so on.The fourth part is the third chapter in which the main content is the cultural characteristics of Hualian County's geographical names.It is elaborated comprehensively from several aspects:the material culture,system culture,spiritual culture,language and culture and so on.The fifth part is the conclusion,and is also the last part of the text.The main content is the conclusion of this article and the expectations of the further study.
