The Confrontation Between Indonesia And Malaysia: 1963-1965

After World Warâ…¡, Malaya and Indonesia struggle with their coloial masters and access to national independence.But the West countries didn't end their colonial rule in the area completely.Facing the deteriorating economic conditions,Britain had to end the colonial rule in South East Asia. In order to keep the force in the region,Britain seize Malaya as the last resort and make a Malaysia Plan.Indonesia see this plan as a neo-colonial plan to surround Indonesia.So Indonesia make a plan "crush Malaysia",and became significant international events in the 60s of 20 th century.This thesis research the background of the confrontation between Indonesia and Malaysia who are kinships,analysis the process of confrontation between Indonesia and Malaysia from all angles,and discuss the influence of the confrontation and its end on both Indonesia and Malaysia,the South East Asia region,even the world.The first part discuss the background of the confrontation between Indonesia and Malaysia from three aspects such as the Cold War in Southeast Asia,the relationship between Malaya and Britain,and the domestic and international situation in Indonesia that time.Malaya and other Southeast Asia countries were hungry for national independence.And after World Warâ…¡britain didn't have enouth funds to continue its colonial rule in this area.Under the leadership of adventurism Sukarno,the economic of Indonesia backward. All the atmosphere of the Cold War,it is easy to cause friction.The second part analysis the process of the confrontation from the public opinion,the diplomacy,the economy and the military.The confrontation between Indonesia and Malaysia,initially concentrated in the public and small-scale military invasion.After the establishment of the Federation of Malaysia,Indonesia cut off trade and foreign economic with Malaysia decisively.In order to urge Indonesia stop confrontation,Britain and the United States imposed all pressures on Indonesia.The third part is about the influence of the confrontation and its end.After the confrontation,the situation in Indonesia deteriorated seriously.Because of some misunderstanding,Indonesia broken the friendly relationship with China.Suharto came to power,then turned to Britain and the United States for U.S. aid.The end of confrontation made a foundation for Southeast Asia's peace,stability and development.
